Tanks that once stored whale oil. C.A. Larsen, a Norwegian whaler, set up the Grytviken Whaling Station in 1904 to capitalize on the vast whale populations in the Southern Ocean. The station closed in 1965 and whales have yet to make a recovery. The station has been preserved as an open air museum. |
